Bill Morris With Teacher And Class At Beverly Woods School Charlotte, N.C.

Bill and Kristin’s school programs feature folklore, history, music and fantasy for a learning experience that is entertaining, as well as tailored to standard course of study objectives.

Kristin Morris, M. A. teaches English and creative writing on the high school level for Charlotte Mecklenberg Schools.

Bill and Kristin introduce children and teens to the songs, stories and skits that mountain people grew up with -- songs and stories that were passed down by their parents and grandparents. Autoharp, banjo, fiddle, guitar and various percussive instruments are featured and discussed, as well as mountain toys such as a "gee-haw whimididdle," a "limber Jack" and wooden puzzles. Students are introduced to age-appropriate trick stories, riddles, fun songs and games. This is an audience participation program that teaches the history, rhythm and music.

We also have a workshop on collecting as well as telling stories. Techniques such as expressiveness, timing, vocal tone and body language are discussed. Specific areas of focus include “Writing the Blues and The Hero Within.”

Study guides and/or handouts can be provided for all programs or workshops, if desired.
